Clinic Formats

Nothing beats live hands on instruction, whether you are participating hands on with John at a clinic or watching. John has a wealth of proven experience and knowledge to share and he does so in an entertaining and inspiring way.  The following are popular formats but clinic content and formats can be  customized to meet the participants needs!

Format I:  Foundations of Ground & Mounted Training

This popular clinic from “beginning to riding” will expand your knowledge & take you and your horse to a new level of horsemanship This is a 2 or day clinic in which John works with the riders in a group atmosphere with all riders doing ground work or riding.  It is available to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders and must be pre-approved before scheduling.  Six to eight riders are required for this type of clinic and they need to ride for the entire clinic. The format is very personal, and easily accommodates riders of various disciplines and with a wide range of goals.  A maximum of eight riders are accepted per clinic.  Riders work one-on-one with John, in addition to working as a group.  Also available at most venues are obstacle courses, a water crossing and jumps to work with. Each morning begins with a meeting in which each rider develops a plan for the day. The morning meeting is followed by a few ground work exercises, which help put a feel behind some of the words we use in our horsemanship (like "softness", "blending" and "feel"). Then we work with our horses all morning, break for lunch, and work with the horses again after lunch for the afternoon.  We close each day with another meeting at which the students go over what they learned that day.  Minimum of six (6) riders, maximum of eight (8). Auditors are welcome to attend

Format II:   Confidence Building Clinic

This is two on one 1 or 2 day clinic format; John works with the riders on a two on one atmosphere doing ground work at a scheduled time or riding at the same time where he does you do!   He works with two horses and riders individually for two hours at a specific time each day and the remainder of the participants watch. This clinic format is open to all rider abilities, beginners through advanced.  Riders need to ride for a minimum of two days. Minimum of six (6) riders, maximum of eight (8). Auditors are welcome to attend.

Format III:  The Essentials Level 1 - Groundwork & Horsemanship

How many times have you heard another rider say, "This horse just does not like that," or, "I've learned that this horse will only (fill in the blank) when he/she is good and ready." How many times have you said it yourself? This two on one 2 day clinic format; John works with the riders on a two on one atmosphere doing ground work at a scheduled time or riding at the same time where he does you do!    Doing Ground work exercises he works with two horses and riders individually for two hours at a specific time each day and the remainder of the participants watch.  Doing mounted work all the participants work on exercises.  This clinic format is open to all rider abilities, beginners through advanced.  Riders need to ride for a minimum of two days.  Minimum of six (6) riders, maximum of eight (8). Auditors are welcome to attend.

Format IV:  Open Format Clinic and/or Work Shops [Private or Semi Private]

Think Smarter, Feel Smarter, Ride Smarter, Communicate more Effectively; John will teach you to work smarter and quickly find new solutions to old problems with new confidence.  In this format, John works ground work in the morning and riding in the afternoon.  Riders work in a group setting sessions with individual coaching. This format is available to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders and auditors are welcome.  Participants may require a combination of Ground and Mounted work.   Minimum riders and the fee will totally depend on location and my costs to get there!

Format V – Desensitizing and Sensitizing

Whether you are looking to increase your confidence on a casual trail ride or participate in a parade through downtown, our Desensitization Clinic will challenge you and your horse throughout the entire day. Designed for riders from beginner to advanced, John will teach YOU the things you need to know to enable your horse to respond effectively and safely under stressful conditions. Our instruction is not just designed to make your horse bolder; proven techniques teach the rider how to use the horse's own instincts to create success. We will show you how to build a relationship with your horse based on trust, allowing you to overcome stressers you never thought possible. Like all of our clinics, this instruction is hands on and participants work on the ground and are on horseback during the clinic.

Format VI – Stress clinic
Often, riders have no idea just how much they are communicating to their mount through body language. For some, the mere anticipation of a stressful encounter causes them to transmit trepidation to their horse. This creates anxiety in the horse whether the perceived threat was real or not. Overcoming the effects of stressors on your horse begins with YOU! We can teach you how to communicate confidence to your horse.  During this clinic you and your horse will be safely introduced to a higher level of stress and a greater give. Multiple pressures will be used simultaneously while you ride in a group setting. Here, we reinforce and build on the techniques taught in the Desensitization Clinic, utilizing your horse's natural instincts to achieve success. As a result of this clinic you will be amazed at what your horse is capable of, and your horse will learn a new level of trust in you, its rider.
